Goals and Vision

The revitalisation of the DAM area is a long-term, gradual process aimed at creating an economically viable, liveable and environmentally sustainable area that is organically integrated into the urban fabric. The vision builds on the area’s economic potential, the strengthening of urban functions, the development of green spaces and the modernisation of the necessary infrastructure.

From an economic perspective, the aim is primarily to attract industrial and economic activities that are compatible with the characteristics of the site, have low logistics requirements and enable operations with near-zero emissions. The development options under consideration also include the possibility of creating larger, contiguous industrial areas that could accommodate investments of different sizes.

From an urban perspective, the objective is to create an area that does not function in isolation, but gradually becomes part of everyday life in Miskolc. In the future, this could include retail, cultural, sports and entertainment functions, services and community spaces, taking into account feasibility and sustainability considerations, as well as the necessary professional and community consultations.

The development of green spaces is an important element in making the area more liveable. The creation of green spaces, green corridors and recreational areas, together with pedestrian and cycling routes, could improve connections between the surrounding neighbourhoods and help integrate the area more closely into the everyday life of the city.

The overall objective is therefore to create a new urban area that generates economic, environmental and community value while preserving the significant industrial heritage of steel production in Diósgyőr. In the long term, the revitalisation could also contribute to expanding Miskolc’s economic and urban development opportunities.
